“…seven years of phenomenal abundance are coming throughout all the land of Egypt…” Gen 41:29 ISV
A poor country farmer was once visited in his country home by a more educated friend of his who was a Geologist. As the visitor attempted to enter the poorly-built, frail structure, he saw a stone on the ground that had been used as a wedge to keep the door open. Stooping down, he picked up the rock, studied it briefly, and was visibly startled at the realization of what it was.
His friend- the poor farmer, noticing that something was up, asked the Geologist why he was stunned at the stone he had picked up. His friend was kind enough to inform him that that stone, which had been used to keep the door of the country house open during the day for many years, was a piece of diamond. Further excavation revealed a large deposit of diamond around the house and within the plot of land that belonged to the poor farmer.
He soon sold the piece of land to a wealthy mining company at a humongous price, and his children became shareholders of the company, enabling them to enjoy the wealth from the treasure buried in their father’s country house for many more years. The visit of the Geologist on that day ushered that family into their season of abundance.
When Joseph stood before the Pharaoh of Egypt, he declared by spiritual intelligence that Egypt had stepped into seven years of phenomenal abundance (Genesis 41:29). The Bible further says that during the seven years of abundance, the land of Egypt yielded fruits plentifully, according to the word of the Lord that Joseph had declared by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
All over the world right now, people are responding one way or the other to a change of seasons: students are beginning a new academic year, some businesses are starting a new fiscal year, the American Football league (NFL) is beginning a new season, and the Northern hemisphere is also marking the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn. There is no doubt that we are in a season of new beginnings.
For us at ABBA’s Dwelling, we sense that God is ushering us (and you, beloved reader) into a season of abundance! We are entering a season of great nourishment. Insight and inspiration will be abundant; there will be an abundance of favour and open doors; there will be an abundance of wisdom and direction. It has pleased the LORD to declare a feast and to make ABBA’s Dwelling the table on which to display the assorted delicacies specially prepared for you. From the pages of this blog, the Holy Spirit will minister directly to you and bring answers to very pertinent questions in your heart.
How to Maximize this Season of Abundance:
1. Forget the past (Philippians 3:12-14)
One barrier preventing people from entering the new thing God has prepared for them is their constant dwelling on past mistakes and failures, past hurts and tragedies, and even past achievements and successes. People who live in the past always remember what went wrong with their lives. Such people always refer to issues of the past.
A person of the past constantly compares what happens in his life daily to what happened before. The language of a man of the past is, “I remember when…”, “If only I had…”, “I just wish I could go back and undo so and so…”, and “ I wish I had never…”. Such people would harbor offence if their past misfortunes were caused by someone else or bitterness if their own mistakes caused them. A man of the future will rather say things like, “*Yes, I made such and such mistake, but I’ve learned from it and will never repeat such again”, “Yes, I was hurt by so and so, but I’m deciding to not be bitter or offended at him/her.
I’ll keep my eyes fixed on the wonderful future God has for me”. Understandably, some events of the past had such a profound impact on us that may not be easy to forget; however, there is a time to cry, but also a time to wipe your tears and move forward. This is the time to move forward! God’s firm word to you in this season is “remember not the former things…” Isaiah 43:18
2. Plan for the future
The future belongs to those who plan for it. Proceed to read the rest of Joseph’s counsel to Pharaoh in Genesis 41:33-36. You will see that the only way to maximize a season of abundance is to develop a plan to store (trap, gather, save, install, and fix) the bumper crops that the land yields during the season of abundance in preparation for the famine that will be afterwards.
In pressing forward into this new thing God is about to begin in your life, you will need to be intelligent and strategic. Write down a plan for your life for the rest of this year, create a spending budget, find a mentor to whom you will be accountable to oversee you, create a Bible-reading plan and discipline yourself to follow it, spend time praying and seeking God’s face for your future, and read relevant books to increase your knowledge base and your access to existing ideas or information.
Live purposefully. Life is not a game. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:16 “These are evil times, so make every minute count.”
